I rediscovered an old Voltron fic I started sketching in 2019 and it’s honestly so good I’m debating whether or not I should try to actually write it.
Or, more specifically, whether or not I want to have to remember enough about Voltron to write it lmao.
Eeey the manga version sounded more personal. Can a Japanese speaker please tell me if the lines are the same in both anime and manga, or did the anime really change it?
Japanese is a very context-dependent language, and I have to admit I haven’t mastered it enough to know if there’s some obvious subtext a native/fluent speaker would see here, but to me it looks like it could go either way.
In both the manga and the anime, Bachira says “これからもワクワクさせてよ潔世一[エゴイスト]”, which is basically, “Keep making [one] excited, Isagi Yoichi egoist.” Importantly, he doesn’t actually use any pronouns like “me” or “our” here, so it isn’t actually explicit.
That said, I think you could argue it’s closer to “me” based on the preceding sentence about Isagi’s face and the fact that it’s just the two of them talking.
